Frequently Asked Questions
What is native harvest?
Native Harvest is a non-profit organization focused on planting native edible plants in urban areas.
How can I help?
You can volunteer, donate, or participate in our community planting events to support our mission. We are constantly in need of native species of edible plants, places to plant them, and people to help.
What types of plants do you plant?
We plant a variety of native edible plants, including fruits, vegetables, and herbs that thrive in urban environments. We focus on low-maintenance, hardy plants that continue to produce for years.
Our goal is to alleviate hunger. Children are malnourished all across the US, yet 'food' has never been more abundant. Specifically in inner cities and urban areas, grocery stores may be limited or nonexistent. Income levels are typically lower, and nutrition education is almost non-existent.
Why focus on urban areas?
Are the plants free?
Yes, the edible plants we grow are available for the public to harvest at no cost. Please only take what you need for that moment. We cannot provide full meals at the moment, although we can help increase the overall nutrition and health by introducing fruits and vegetables into our diets.
